The Photographer by Emmanuel Guibert

March 25, 2013

The PhotographerBook Description: In 1986, Afghanistan was torn apart by a war with the Soviet Union. This graphic novel/photo-journal is a record of one reporter’s arduous and dangerous journey through Afghanistan accompanying the Doctors Without Borders. Didier Lefèvre’s photography, paired with the art of Emmanuel Guibert, tells the powerful story of a mission undertaken by men and women dedicated to mending the wounds of war.

Educational Benefit: This graphic novel combines sketches, photographs and text to illustrate the devastation of war in Afghanistan through the eyes of a very special group of people, Doctors Without Borders. Students who are reluctant to read historical textbooks or other stories, or students who struggle to understand how tragic war can be, can get a better visualization of the realities of war through the artwork of Emmanuel Guibert and the lens of Didier Lefèvre’s camera.
